As work from home commenced and communication switched to virtual conversations, most people maintained professionalism when showing up for online calls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Fast forward a few weeks, and corporate attire is now being replaced with T-Shirts, no shirts, shorts, sweatpants and even pyjamas. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>I had one meeting where a client refused to turn her camera on for an 11 am meeting because she hadn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even bothered to get dressed for the day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12148 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"554\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b24.jpg 795w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b24-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b24-768x469.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b24-600x366.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>People are clearly showing up differently for business meetings. Women are skipping make-up, and men are sporting beard stubble.<\/p>\n<p><em>Adapting a laid back, less than groomed appearance may be acceptable when chatting with co-workers, maybe even the boss, yet it is less than ideal when speaking with a client or prospect. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Before you even turn the camera on, you should be asking yourself, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcwhat kind of impression am I making at this moment? When fewer meetings are taking place, you must put your best self forward during a virtual meeting. If it is important enough to have a meeting, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s important enough for you to do it well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12149 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b26.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b26.jpg 795w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b26-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b26-768x469.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b26-600x366.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To be at the top of your game, gentlemen you need more than a clean shaved face and ladies need more than a bit of lipstick to deliver an outstanding virtual presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ways to convey confidence and authority by making the most of teleconferencing technology, the right tools to deliver your presentation and a few essential techniques to consider when you are in front of the camera.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>1. Enhancing your Technology<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve already heard from other experts on using the different conferencing platforms available and the technical aspects of those services. On the other hand, I want to share ways to improve the delivery of your message with some essential tips that you can apply right now that will enhance your professionalism when presenting virtually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sound<br \/><\/strong>Whether you are giving a large presentation or having a one-to-one, you must get the sound right. Be aware of distant sounds such as air conditioners that might affect the quality of a presentation that is being recorded. Turn off all audible notifications on your mobile phone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lighting<br \/><\/strong>Avoid windows behind you\u00e2\u20ac\u201dclose curtains behind you to avoid being backlit. Grab a desktop lamp and set this in front of you so that you are well lit. Soft natural light is best. If possible, sit with a window to your side.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12150 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b27.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"585\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b27.jpg 795w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b27-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b27-768x469.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dev2.webhubglobal.com\/experential\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/b27-600x366.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>You on Camera\u00c2  <br \/><\/strong><em>The camera sees more than you know.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If your visual setting on Zoom is set for a 16\u00c3\u20149 aspect ratio, it shows a broader area around you, so avoid having a messy desktop are.<\/p>\n<p>Know what is in the background. Take a screenshot of yourself on camera and then blow it up. This will allow you to see what is behind you, to the sides of you and even above you. Your camera picks up more than you know.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>2. Tools of the Trade<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><strong>Lighting<br \/><\/strong>If the place where you are presenting does not have natural light, consider investing in a clip-on light that fits on your laptop, iPad or smartphone, such as a Chatlight or Selfie Ring Light.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Smartphone Tripods\u00c2  <\/strong><br \/>Not all presentations are conducted via your laptop or iPad. You may need to give a presentation via your smartphone. You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll want to avoid moving back and forth within the shot just to advance the slides. It is well worth purchasing your own PowerPoint remote control clicker.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>3. Teleconferencing Techniques<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s be honest. Our family and friends don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t care what we look like or how we show up on a personal video call. Yet when it comes to business, we can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be that cavalier.<\/p>\n<p>Conference calls today need to convey professionalism, and you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll want to be at your best. Practice in advance<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Even today, many individuals use these teleconferencing platforms for the first time. Know how to share your screen and make sure that people can hear you.<\/p>\n<p>Practice the presentation. Just because you are not sitting in the same room as the customer doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t mean you shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be putting in the same amount of effort. Having notes in front of you is not your \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcget out of jail free card\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 that gives you a pass on practising your presentation.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>5. The Camera\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Position<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Prop up your computer onto a few books or a box if your camera is at the bottom of the computer. Nobody wants to be looking up your nose or look at the sagging skin under your chin.<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s crucial that you speak directly into the camera and not look at the screen, especially if you see yourself in a little box at the bottom of the screen.<\/em><\/p>\n<h6><strong>6. Body Language &amp; Gestures<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Sit up straight. Put a pillow behind your back to support you to sit up straight. If you have a swivel chair, avoid the urge to swing left and right.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Naturally, the hands want to move as you speak, so it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s okay for you to be animated. One word of caution is to make hand gestures close or parallel with your body.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The camera magnifies the size of your hands, and it can look weird to have your hands popping in and out of the frame.<\/em><\/p>\n<h6><strong>7. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t eat on camera<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Do your best to have a meal before your conference call. No one wants to watch you eat, not to mention people can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t understand you if you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got food in your mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, every presentation counts, and every presentation has high stakes.
